Mekael Dawson (b.1985) is a photographer and visual artist based in Los Angeles, California. An autodidact by nature, Dawson has not received any formal arts education. As a teen, he grew up producing skateboard videos, playing in punk bands and catching snapshots on disposable cameras. It wasn’t until 2010 that Mekael began examining the world through the lens of his 1977 Minolta.
His diverse focus ranges from landscape and street photography to portraiture and abstract compositions. Questions surrounding the nature of consciousness, human relatedness and the complexities of the natural world are but a few driving forces behind his creativity. In all aspects of his work, he strives to present his subjects with both objectivity and a sense of wonder.
Dawson is currently available for commissions and freelance projects.
